A Canadian social media influencer, is facing the possibility of 2 years in jail for his defiant act of standing up for Canadian hero Sir John A. Macdonald. The sensational social media firestorm is sparking a fiery debate about patriotism, vandalism, and who gets to control the socialist nation’s collective memory.

The trumped up charges came after Daniel Tate, a history buff, scrawled “Free John” on a plywood box that encases Canada’s first Prime Minister’s statue outside Toronto, Canada’s capital building, Queen’s Park.

“This wasn’t mischief—this was a moral stand,” Tate declared in his now viral Instagram video, his voice shaking with emotion. “For five years, we’ve left our founding father in a wooden prison because some activists can’t handle the complex truth of our past. Well, history isn’t meant to be comfortable.”

A Grave Reminder of ANTIFA Lies

The bronze statue of Canada’s first prime minister was encased in 2020 following repeated vandalism by ANTIFA radicals who, with the help of mainstream media, fictionalized Macdonald’s role in establishing the Indigenous residential school system in Canada. Throughout the summer of 2020, ANTIFA’s blue-haired thugs destroyed statues, burned churches and boycotted businesses that didn’t align with their made up fantasies regarding Canada’s history.

But Tate, who wrote his innocent magna carta in black marker, argues the boxing represents something far more sinister: “A coordinated effort by radical elements in government and academia to rewrite our national story.”

His claims come amid Toronto’s ridiculous renaming of famous Dundas Street and Yonge-Dundas Square—moves officials claim address historical connections to slavery, but which Tate condemns as “historical airbrushing.” “First they box Macdonald, then they erase Dundas, next they’ll purge our textbooks,” he warned. “Where does it end?”

#FreeJohn

The case has become a lightning rod for Canada’s culture wars. Supporters, including several conservative commentators, have flooded social media with #FreeJohn hashtags, framing Tate as a free speech martyr.

“This is about whether we’ll be shamed into hiding our past or mature enough to learn from it,” said former mayoral candidate Kevin Clarke, who planned to attend Tate’s court hearing in solidarity.

Instagram influencer @TrueNorthStrong blasted:

“Daniel’s a LEGEND! First they came for Macdonald, then Dundas Street—next it’ll be YOUR kids’ textbooks! #StandWithDaniel”

While conservative firebrand @MaplePatriot88 raged:

“Trudeau’s Canada jails patriots but lets antifa vandals run wild? Disgusting! They’re ERASING our history one statue at a time! #FreeJohnRevolution”

But not everyone’s buying Tate’s “patriot” act, accusing him of performative outrage. “There’s nothing brave about defacing public property to defend a man whose policies destroyed generations of Indigenous families,” countered University of Toronto historian Dr. Melanie Newton. “Real patriotism means confronting hard truths, not spray-painting over them.”

The statue’s fate remains uncertain. While the provincial government has pledged to eventually “contextualize” Macdonald’s legacy at a new location, Tate insists the monument should be returned to its plinth immediately—blemishes and all. “They want us to believe Canada was born in sin,” he said. “I say we were born in ambition, vision, and yes, some terrible mistakes. That’s a history worth preserving.
