Letter to the Editor
Dear Karen and Kevin,
We’re a BIPOC+LGBTQIA+ family living in Calgary, Canada. Not sure if you heard the news, but the government here is banning top and bottom surgeries for all Trans Kids under 18. They’re also banning puberty blockers for kids under 16. As a mother (I identify as a woman and ally) I’m sickened by this 1930s Hitler mentality. My four-year-old recently told me he is kind of sure he’s a she. Personally, I feel like I could perform the surgery on our child, but my partner, who identifies as he/cat, says our diverse family can only avoid genocide if we escape to the US. While I love Canada I can’t live in a place where a four-year-old can’t change their sex.
Canada Has Oppressed Parents Too in Calgary
KEVIN: Hey CHOPT, I was personally appalled when I heard the disgusting news coming out of your far-right extremist province. In Ottawa we call Alberta, Trump North. LOL! I recently said to Karen that I also feel this attack on Trans Kids reminds me of 1930s Germany, but at least back then one was allowed to undergo experimental surgery. It looks like history doesn’t repeat itself!, CHOPT!!!
As much as I hate to see you leave Canada, I can’t think of any better options. I would float the idea of you performing the surgery yourself, but some right-wing lunatics might consider that child abuse. Anyhoo, there are still plenty of Blue Biden states that will welcome a progressive family like yours. Vermont, for example, is only a short drive from Ottawa, and sometimes me, Karen, and Rex (her boyfriend) rent an organic farm there for the summer. I can’t recommend it enough. I typically sleep in the stables, while Karen and Rex take the house, so I will warn you that it does get chilly at night.
KAREN: I hear you and I see you CHOPT. We are slowly watching our provincial governments covertly remove our Charter of Rights and Freedoms and it is absolutely disgusting. Imagine if we didn’t have a leader like Justin Trudeau who would never do something like that. I mean could you imagine if the government told us what we could and couldn’t do with our own bodies. We might as well be sleeping with the wrong genitals under an iron curtain.
I believe any four-year-old who believes they’re in the wrong body needs to go under the knife ASAP, and for those Alberta Nazis to say otherwise is typical, disgusting extremist behavior. Don’t even get me started on puberty blockers! If I had a child, instead of eight abortions, my child would definitely be popping those like Flintstone vitamins.
In other news, unfortunately Rex and I have come to an amicable end, but my husband is sure I will meet someone new. All that is to say that I agree with Kevin, Vermont is beautiful!!!
