Disney+ She-Hulk A Smash Hit with Marvel Fans

Mansplainers and Fringe Racists - This Show Was Not Made For You!

The latest Disney+ series set in the MCU verse, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is sadly getting review-bombed by manbaby misogynists and alt-right bigots acting in bad faith. This is deeply dangerous to our democracy and quite frankly I think review sites such as Rotten Tomatoes or IMDB need to crack down on these fake reviews and silence the “critics”.

I’m not exaggerating when I tell you that this show might just be the greatest piece of media to ever grace our screens. It’s easily 1,000,000/10. The acting? Perfect. The pacing? Perfect. The cinematography and CGI? You guessed it, PERFECT. I literally have no constructive criticism to give to the show runners or actors, other than to do more of what they’re doing.

What the mansplainers and fringe racists fail to understand about She-Hulk is that it is first and foremost a comedy, and just like another recent MCU verse property, Thor: Love and Thunder it completely excels at delivering the laughs. From the opening Marvel logo to the after-credits scene it’s non-stop hilarity. At one point I was guffawing so hard I had to pause the episode to be violently sick and catch my breath.

A COMIC ADAPTATION FOR THE BOOKS: Never has a comicbook property been so seamlessly adapted to another medium while still retaining the original core essence of the characters and story.

My brother Kyle walked in shortly afterwards and saw me staring at the screen, dead-eyed, emotionless and cackling robotically, a pool of vomit sloshing around in my lap. Without breaking my laughter, I slowly turned my head towards Kyle and pointed directly at the screen. The image of She-Hulk defending herself from her would-be rapists apparently triggered Kyle so much that he scurried off, presumably to join the hordes of MAGA insurrectionists currently storming the servers of IMDB in a violent and bigoted attempt to overthrow Kevin Feige via review-bombs.

Tatiana Maslany, who portrays She-Hulk, is an absolute revelation and deserves all the awards we can gently throw at her. I know strictly speaking the Academy Awards are reserved for films but I think we can make an exception in this case and just give her a damn Oscar for her multi-layered, incredibly nuanced and extremely funny performance as Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk.

Jameela Jamil as Titania is equally stunning and brave and even though she only has two seconds of screen time in the first episode I can already tell she’s going to be an absolute scene stealer if they ever let her have one. If Don Cheadle can get nominated for an Emmy for his five minutes of screen time in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier then I see no reason as to why Jameela can’t be nominated for her brief cameo in the first episode. Make it happen, Emmys!!

Though I can’t define what a womxn is, I can say without a doubt that this series is a shining beacon of hope for marginalized womxn everywhere and could perhaps be the most important step towards achieving true equality (Read: The Fall of the Oppressive Patriarchy and the Rise of the Matriarchy, Lee, Stan) since Ghostbusters 2016, surpassing the pitiful efforts of the suffragettes and any and all “feminist” media that came before it, e.g. Aliens, Terminator 2, Mad Max: Fury Road (that was the one with ladies).

The series is extremely prescient. The parallels and nods to Roe v. Wade cannot be denied. Jennifer must deal with the emotional, mental and physical tolls of being She-Hulk, a burden bestowed upon her by a man who subsequently feels he has every right to tell her what to do with her body and her life. Pregnant peoplx can relate all too well to her struggles.

BOW WOW FOR RUFF-ALO: We all love Mark Ruffalo for his politics and unique interpretation of The Man-Hulk. But even this incredible green goodie could learn a thing or two from an even stronger womxn.

With the dangerous toxic masculinity and rampant misogyny of Steve Rogers and Tony Stark washed away, Phase 4 of the M-SHE-Universe has done an excellent job of elevating previously established super womxn like Captain Marvel and Scarlet Witch to the forefront whilst introducing new and exciting super heroines such as She-Hulk to fill the gaping hole carelessly left behind by Steve and Tony. Much like how the Biden administration is heroically patching up the gaps in Trump’s racist border wall in Arizona.

It was a joy to see She-Hulk instantly gain control of her powers, reducing Bruce Banner (once again played to perfection by Mark Ruffalo, who hasn’t aged a day since taking on the role despite still grieving the loss of his close, personal friends Anthony and JoJo) to a jealous, impotent manchild. The Incredible Sulk! The fight between them later in the first episode also has some of the best CGI I think Marvel has ever put out, which was only equaled later in the episode by the short, tightly edited fight scene between She-Hulk and Titania. All that crunch time and those last minute demands from the studio to the (frankly overpaid) VFX artists really paid off in spades.

The last thing I want to take note of is the absolutely necessary and much improved change to the character’s origin story, which is masterfully handled in the first five minutes of the episode. Comic nerds and womxn haters are outraged that instead of Bruce saving Jennifer via a blood transfusion she instead saves him from a car wreck and accidentally gets his blood in a cut she sustained in the crash. All I have to say to y’all is: GET OVER IT, this show wasn’t made for you and it’s literally just a superhero show anyway. Cry more.

BACK UP: I didn’t think this show could get any better after episode one but then in episode 3 she hulks out and twerks with Megan Thee Stallion. Art!

Disney is doing a fantastic job of taking previously problematic franchises such as Star Wars and their theme parks and turning them into progressive powerhouses that all fans can enjoy, and the MCU verse is no exception. Though there exists a fringe minority of neckbeard virgins (who I am sure were extremely upset when the first episode FINALLY answered the burning question we’ve all had since the first Captain America movie: is Steve Rogers a virgin?) and shoulder-munching bigots who will always hate on anything they put out just to be contrarian and racist, I think basically everyone else will absolutely love this show.

  1. […] The film, being a sequel to the most universally acclaimed and beloved film of all time ever according to the woke press, could be set up for failure. After losing its lead actor before production could even start, it already had an uphill battle ahead of it, especially in the woke wake of bombs: ‘Thor: Love And Thunder’ and ‘She-Hulk: Attorney At Law’.
