In a move that’s equal parts virtue signaling and political theater, the Worcester City Council voted 9-2 to declare itself a so-called sanctuary for transgender individuals. The tiny Massachusetts municipality of Worcester is now joining the ranks of cities like Sacramento and Ithaca in the race to see which city is suffering the most from the woke mind virus.
The resolution claims to bar out-of-state agencies from accessing data on gender-transition treatments and surgeries at local clinics. It also promises to thumb its nose at any federal or state policies that might “harm” the transgender community.
One resident who spoke to America’s Number One Source of Newstainment, GWU! said that Worcester officials seem to have nothing better to do than pick fights with higher levels of government. “They should stick to the bread and butter issues they were elected to be responsible for,” he said.
What Drama Queens
The public comment period before the vote was a literal circus. One resident dressed like a big top clown delivered a melodramatic ultimatum, saying: “If you don’t make Worcester a safe space for trans people, prepare for us to make this city very unsafe for you.” Nothing says “inclusive” like a thinly veiled threat from the tolerant left, right?
Another resident went full Godwin’s Law, comparing the current political climate to Nazi Germany. “They burned books on gender science first!” they declared, conveniently ignoring the fact that Worcester is, in fact, not Nazi Germany.
The Lone Voice of Reason
Not everyone was swept up in the gender hysteria. Council Member Morris Bergman actually dared to point out that transgender individuals already have equal protections under existing laws. He also warned that this feel-good resolution could cost the city millions in federal funding.
“This doesn’t give anyone new rights,” Bergman said. “But it might screw over the other 200,000 people in Worcester.”

Can’t Trump Trump
Of course, no woke panic attack would be complete without blaming Donald Trump. The resolution comes as a direct response to two executive orders he signed in January—one recognizing only two sexes (instead of 72) and another aimed at restricting gender-transition treatments for children.
The virtue signalling resolution which is clearly less about protecting transgender individuals and more about Worcester officials patting themselves on the back is totally out of sync with the American electorate, which pushed back on the woke agenda as illustrated in the landslide victory of President Donald Trump.
“America, categorically rejects, transgender lunacy,” said Trump in response to the out-of-step city council decision.
Sanctuary From What, Exactly?
Trump’s order that moves to protect children from the physical mutilation of so-called gender transition surgery, was issued on January 27. The President pledged his executive action would rigorously enforce laws to “prohibit or limit” what were termed as “destructive and life-altering procedures”, including the use of puberty blockers, hormones and surgeries for those transitioning.
Although the order is now being blocked by an activist judge, it also called on the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to halt federal funds that may go to covering gender-affirming care or related research.
One ratepayer at the meeting told GWU! that the city should: “try to fix potholes instead of common sense legislation about men with mental illnesses.”
